DTS provides the UK-based engineering, commercial and project interface, with current production carried out through our manufacturing network in South Korea. We support contractors, mining companies and infrastructure clients requiring SGI, cast iron or fabricated steel segment systems manufactured to project drawings and technical specifications.

Engineered Metal Segment Systems
DTS supplies bolted metal segment systems where strength, dimensional accuracy, watertightness and reliable project delivery are critical.
Typical scope includes SGI tubbing, cast iron segments, fabricated steel segments, machined flanges, bolt holes, sealing details, opening sets, junction elements and other non-standard underground structures.
The appropriate solution depends on project geometry, ground conditions, water pressure, installation method, design loads and long-term operating requirements.
Mine Shaft Applications
For shaft sinking and underground mining projects, DTS supports robust segmental systems for difficult ground, deep excavations, high groundwater pressure and demanding installation conditions.
Typical applications include production shafts, service shafts, ventilation shafts, access shafts and other vertical underground structures.
Where required, DTS can assist with engineering review, manufacturing drawings, FEM analysis, QA documentation and technical coordination with the contractor or design team.
Tunnel and Junction Applications
DTS also supports tunnel projects requiring compact, durable and watertight metal structures.
Typical applications include tunnel rings, junctions, transition zones, cross-passage areas, tunnel
eyes and other special structures where geometry, sealing and installation sequence are critical.
Metal segment systems can be particularly useful in confined or difficult ground conditions where excavation diameter, face stability, temporary works and installation control are important project factors.

Waterproofing and Joint Sealing
Watertight performance is a key requirement for many underground projects, especially where groundwater pressure or unstable ground conditions create additional risk.
Depending on the project specification, DTS can support traditional sealing arrangements as well as advanced waterproofing concepts.
Sealing options may include lead-based systems, rubber gaskets, hydrophilic seals and polymer-based waterproofing systems. The final approach is reviewed against geometry, water pressure, installation sequence and long-term performance requirements.
Special Structures
In addition to standard ring systems, DTS can support non-standard underground components where project geometry is more complex.
Typical examples include tunnel eyes, cross-passage opening sets, step-plate junctions, transition rings, connection zones and custom segmental components.
These areas usually require closer coordination between the contractor, designer and manufacturer because small changes in geometry, bolting, sealing or machining can affect installation risk and programme.
Engineering Support
DTS can support customers during the technical development stage of a project.
The scope may include review of customer drawings, adaptation of manufacturing drawings, geometry review, bolting and flange interface review, sealing detail review, FEM analysis and preparation of QA/QC documentation.
This helps align the design with manufacturing requirements, installation constraints and project delivery expectations before production starts.
Manufacturing and Quality Control
Manufacturing is carried out through DTS’s South Korea production network, covering casting, fabrication where applicable, machining, inspection, marking, protective treatment and export packing.
Each project can be managed through an agreed Inspection Control Plan covering raw materials, moulding or fabrication, chemical composition, mechanical testing, dimensions, machining, NDT, final inspection, marking and packing.
Typical documentation may include material test certificates, chemical composition reports, mechanical test results, dimensional inspection reports, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, coating records, packing records and project-specific QA documentation.

DTS has supplied underground segment systems for major mining and infrastructure projects, including BHP Jansen, Anglo American Woodsmith and London Underground Northern Line Extension.
These projects included SGI and cast iron components, shaft and tunnel rings, step-plate junctions, cross-passage opening sets and other engineered underground structures.
